Passing of Beloved Sloth, Luna

The staff of the Palo Alto Junior Museum & Zoo is deeply saddened to share the unexpected passing of Luna, a Linnaeus’s two-toed sloth at the end of January. Luna had been a cherished part of the zoo for nearly two years, on loan from Classroom Safari, an education-based nonprofit in Sonoma County. She was a favorite among visitors, delighting guests as she gracefully climbed branches during afternoon enrichment programs, inspiring curiosity and appreciation for wildlife. The Palo Alto Junior Museum & Zoo plans to welcome another sloth in the future to continue Luna’s legacy.  The necropsy results indicate that she passed due to complications from old age.  She was much older than her caregivers thought.
